It was the book Themes for Great Cities by Graeme Thomson that inspired Orwell's frontman Jérôme Didelot to rearrange Simple Minds songs. This biography, which pays tribute to the inventiveness of the early years of Simple Minds, was a revelation to the musician from Nancy: 'The idea was not to reinterpret songs that everyone had already hummed, but to go and find lesser-known themes in the Scottish band's discography, sometimes drowned out by the radical sound of these early albums, and to offer them in personal, almost solemn versions."

With his band Orwell, Lorraine native Jérôme Didelot has been a recognized craftsman of French-speaking indie pop since the 2000s. He has sometimes ventured into English for a few covers (the mini-album Sunny Songs For Winter at Christmas 2020 among others). He has also had Scottish Isobel Campbell and Japanese Sugar Me sing in French on his side project Son Parapluie. However, for once, Orwell's new album will this time be entirely in English.

Redira-t-on tout le bien que l’on pense de l’album “Exposition Universelle” (2015) dont est tiré le titre ? Ne regardons pas si loin en arrière, réécoutons le bien nommé “Parcelle Brillante” paru l’an dernier. Et profitons de la lumière chatoyante de ces “Sunny Songs for Winter” : l’hiver sera (redeviendra ?) joyeux. [...]
