We often talk about "baroque pop," but this expression encompasses very different realities. What does this aesthetic mean to you? Is it the legacy of contrapuntal writing, a taste for modulations, an abundance of textures, or a more general way of rejecting the minimalist approach of contemporary pop?

Boris Maurussane: For me, it's primarily a taste for modulations and an abundance of textures, and therefore, inevitably, a rejection of the minimalist approach you mentioned. I think contrapuntal writing is often the case with the Beach Boys, the Beatles, or Left Banke, but as for me, I don't know, because I don't have enough theoretical background to master it. Perhaps I did it accidentally? I try to trust my ears; I also correct my scores during the arrangement process. Little by little, I hope to improve. But it's quite empirical for me.
