The songs are, at times, complex but on the whole stick to cool sophisticated pop. However, it’s the array of flute, melodica, sax, strings and that warming Fender rhodes keys sound that make these songs so accessible. As we slip away into Johnny The Storywriter from the first record, Vacation (A Pop Manifesto), the flute really comes in to its own and almost takes the place of lead guitarist in the line-up. The quirky harmonies and strange chord progressions are reminiscent of Sgt. Peppers and even some early Syd Barrett. [...]
