Hugo Chastanet is taking the plunge (or the Channel) and switching to English for his next album, scheduled for early 2025. A way for the singer-songwriter, until now better known by his first name, to get closer to his first musical, but also cinematographic and literary inspirations. Launched as a scout, the single “From the Trees” shows that by changing idiom, Hugo has lost none of what makes the elegant charm of his music: a classic and fluid pop writing, neat melodies, a beautiful modern folk-rock sound, a confident voice but where a certain fragility always shines through. The text, partly inspired by Italo Calvino’s The Baron in the Trees, is an invitation to also take a step back to see further and wider, everything we need right now, whatever the language.
