After “Songs from la Chambre” in 2017 which, as its title suggests, mixed pieces in French and English, Julien Bouchard chose to sing only in his mother tongue on his new album, mischievously titled “Excuse My French” (Hot Pumarecords). The music is still Anglo-Saxon, reminiscent of the heyday of indie rock with guitars (plus a bit of synth) and melancholic folk of the 90s. The recording in his home studio in the Vosges, inautarky, brought a slight lo-fi touch that fits the music perfectly. A great success that its author tells us about piece by piece, with a half-open heart and fully assuming his influences – which he fortunately knew how to transcend.
